When you date a new guy, how do you find out about his exes?

Compact Prints is an exhibition that has been developed by Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts and was first held in 2002. Originally a national event, the exhibition generated considerable interest from overseas and quickly expanded to include international printmakers.

Compact Prints international print exchange and exhibition is touring the country and is currently being presented on the KickArts Feature Wall to 2 May.  The exhibition marks the development of a relationship between the new Djumbunji Press KickArts Fine Art Printmaking and the Townsville based contemporary arts organisation Umbrella Studio. Compact Prints presents contemporary works encompassing all traditional and technological printmaking methods with no specific theme other than size.

The exhibition creates links to encourage opportunities for partnerships between galleries, artists and institutions alike, at the same time showcasing both local and international printmaking, challenging an audience to create their own visual relationships between the works presented.
There has never been a specific exhibition theme, only a stipulation that the prints must be exactly 12 x 12 cm (two must be supplied, one for the exhibition and one for the exchange) and that photographs must be digitally manipulated.  The project is handled almost entirely by email and post, and many of the participants have taken part in all four Compact Prints exhibitions.

Compact Prints is open to anyone, regardless of where they are from, what technique is used or how much experience they have, as long as the specifications are followed and the works are of a high quality standard.

The exhibition comprises of works of art from 130 participating artists who come from countries all around the world including Italy, Denmark, Ireland, Ukraine, USA, Finland and Iran.
Kick Arts Galleries are located at 96 Abbott Street and are open Tuesday – Saturday from 10.am – 5.00pm.  Entry is free. All welcome.
