The KickArts Shop proudly presents Cracker!, the Shop’s 2008 annual creative merchandising exhibition on display in the Shop and Foyer at the Centre of Contemporary Arts until Christmas Eve.
Cracker! features works by 20 individual artists as well as several small design companies. Local artists such as Kristin Tennyson, Ed Koumans, Julie McEnerny and Billy Missi have all contributed new work and the range of artworks and contemporary gift must-haves includes jewellery, ceramics, screen printed sarongs, toys, linocuts, small works on canvas and handmade Christmas decorations. There are also beautiful chalk drawings featuring angels by Malachi Aird and sculptural works and new limited edition prints by Geoff Dixon.
Unique handcrafted or designer cards by Poppies for Grace, Artecnica, Kim Rayner and Tia Garnett are available, as well as KickArts’ own range of cards featuring artworks by local artists. Kylie Johnson’s ceramic Christmas stars and birds are back in stock for 2008, as well as new range of flat packed laser cut fine steel decorations by carbon neutral design company Polli and sweet little bronze and sterling silver angel and Christmas tree pieces by Cairns based jeweller Justine Austen.
Brisbane based Florence Forrest of Flying Star Toys has created a series of handmade soft toys inspired by Rolf Harris’s Christmas song “Six White Boomers” and Tiffany Daro has produced Christmas elf dolls utilising recycled vintage fabrics and handmade felt.
Whether you are after a stocking filler, a secret Santa gift for a colleague or a special piece of jewellery or fine art for your loved one, Cracker! has gifts to keep recipients inspired throughout the coming year.
The KickArts Shop is located at the Centre of Contemporary Arts, 96 Abbott St, Cairns, and is dedicated to the retailing and presentation of unique and contemporary art, craft and design. Opening hours 10am to 5 pm Tuesday to Saturday, free entry, all welcome.
