The Gay Love Coach

COPENHAGEN PRIDE: Tivoli Goes Gay

This year Copenhagen Pride begins with a new special day in Tivoli. On Saturday, 9 August, Tivoli kick starts the Copenhagen Pride Week under the headline Tivoli Goes Gay. Tivoli Goes Gay offers entertainment galore, dancing and music on the Open Air Stage and in the pavilions, a concert with cult vocalists Schwanzen Sänger Knaben in the Glass Hall and a huge fireworks show to end it all. Throughout the day you can also visit the stalls set up by a lot of organisations along the Open Air Stage, and you will be able to watch a couple get married by the Tivoli Lake.

Wedding by the Tivoli Lake
In a partnership with ibyen.dk and Nimb, Tivoli offers a couple the opportunity to get married in an untraditional and romantic wedding ceremony in Tivoli. The lucky couple and their guests will be picked up by the Tivoli Trolley Bus at the Main Entrance and driven to the Princess Pavilion at the Tivoli Lake. There Klaus Bondam, Mayor for the Technical and Environmental Administration in The City of Copenhagen, will marry the couple at 12:00. After a long day's festivities in Tivoli, the couple will then take one of the beautiful luxury suites at the new Hotel Nimb in Tivoli.

The lucky couple will be found through a web competition on ibyen.dk ending on 16 June. The jury includes actor and singer Peter Frödin and actor and director Hella Joof.

Same sex dancing, nevergreens and disco fever
There will be musical entertainment for all tastes all day long. On the Open Air Stage, at the Pantomime Theatre as well as in the pavilions and in the Glass Hall.

Pan Idræt (Pan Sports) presents same sex dancing at 13:00 on the Open Air Stage. So if you like Strictly Come Dancing, this is the place to be. Watch ballroom dancing at its very best, or how about a sensual rumba? The Tivoli Big Band conducted by Peder Kragerup takes care of the music.

In the Promenade Pavilion you will get the chance to hear De Homofone, Denmark's oldest rhythmic homo choir, and in the early evening, journalist and DJ Katrine Ring will play groovy records in the Harmony Pavilion. The Pantomime Theatre offers a fabulous drag show.

The Glass Hall presents Søren Østergaard's Tivoli Varieté which will have a few surprises for you on this occasion. Later in the day, the curtain rises on the Schwanzen Sänger Knaben, the cult vocalists who for 12 years have lured its audiences with leather lieder, seductive children's songs, country hits with a Danish twist, sleazy choir-singing, wide-ranging world songs, magic motown and salubrious Christmas carols. Over time, their repertoire has grown to more than 100 songs. For this event the group has compiled a very special programme entitled ’The Schwanzen Sänger Knaben sing Nevergreens’.

The evening is rounded off with a hit parade of disco music when Night Fever gives a concert on the Open Air Stage. Formed in 1991, the band has participated in innumerable TV shows and played countless concerts. They are sure to send the audience tempera-tures rising as they perform immortal disco classics such as ’I will Survive’, ’Hot Stuff’ and ’We are family’ on the Open Air Stage from 22:00.

After the concert a huge fireworks show will be launched from the top of the Concert Hall roof.

Week long event
This is the first time Tivoli arranges Tivoli Goes Gay, and in a partnership with Copenhagen Pride it kickstarts the week long event which culminates in the great parade through the streets of Copenhagen on Saturday, 16 August.
